The Circolo Italiano di Wellington was founded in Wellington, New Zealand in 1949 and is affiliated to the Societa' Dante Alighieri in Rome. It is one of two 'Italian Clubs' in Wellington, the other being Club Garibaldi. The Circolo Italiano promotes Italian language and culture amongst people who are interested in, and appreciate, the old and new values of Italian civilisation, and also amongst Italian expatriates who wish to keep a close bond with their native land. Club Garibaldi, membership of which is restricted to persons of Italian ancestry, has similar goals and the two clubs work closely together. Monthly social evenings are held from March to November inclusive, generally on the first Thursday of each month. Topics vary, including travel to Italy, Italian Art, music, wine, and all have an Italian flavour. A light supper is served during or after the events. Garibaldi House(Contact) is the usual venue but other venues may be selected during the course of the year. The social evenings are normally conducted in English. Further information on the topics and venues will be made available in the monthly Circolo Newsletter, available on this site - see News. |
